Wetsuit size by height and weight

A wetsuit fits when height and weight both land inside one size. A 5'10", 165 lb wearer reads M on O'Neill's chart and ST on Rip Curl's. Both brands add short (S) and tall (T) versions of most sizes.

"Both fit" means height and weight are both inside the size's printed ranges; "weight fits" lists every size whose weight range holds the weight, a useful second look when no size matches on both. Reading the two charts

O'Neill prints seventeen men's sizes in feet, inches and pounds; Rip Curl prints thirteen in centimetres and kilograms. Both build each size in three heights: a short (MS, LS, XLS), a regular and a tall (MT, LT, XLT), all sharing the regular size's chest. O'Neill's medium covers 5'9"-5'11" and 155–170 lb; Rip Curl's medium covers 175–180 cm and 75–80 kg, so the two mediums are not the same suit. The weight bands are narrow and in places leave gaps or overlap, which is why a wearer can match a size on weight but not on height. In that case the chest and waist columns are the tie-breaker.

Rip Curl's chart prints one chest and one waist figure per size rather than a range. O'Neill prints ranges in inches, and its metric table gives the same sizes in centimetres and kilograms. Women's charts are not covered yet; they use different size names and measurements.
